Dear ones,
I offer you a letter of devotion.
My practice is a space of devotional ritual. Every creation is spun from reverence.
Devotion has changed my life from groundless chaos to a current of deep knowing. It is how I nurture the well that feeds the fire in my belly. How I grow roots into the Earth and keep a portal open to all that is sacred. It is a path to follow into the dark. It is my own, but also populated by all the beautiful beings who walk alongside me. We are all converging rivers, all destined to meet at sea.
And for these reasons I have questioned the ways in which my work can live in a world governed by capital. But I have come to see the offering of my work and the process of collecting it as one of patronage and reciprocity, an exchange of devotion between those who nurture my ecosystem and myself. It is a way of ritually and tangibly marking our union in the webs of our lives, a mutual commitment to oneness, with each other and Life.
My hope is for my work to be a force of wilderness, a bridge to the Earth-centric way, rewilding the path I walk with my every touch and creation. So thank you deeply and dearly for walking alongside me in the dark—I am grateful that our rivers have converged on our way to the sea, and I am always here with you in enlivened loving rage against the empire.
We are the weavers of the webs of our lives, and every strand pulled and connection made that serves our deepest knowings—that we are Earth, come from her, and will return to her—is an act of resistance.
In love,
Lucy Mu Li
